Life is busy. Life with young kids can feel like a whirlwind. Finding time to have your kids’ feet measured isn’t always easy. Here at Jump, we’re on a mission to make shoe fitting and finding the perfect kids’ shoes as easy and enjoyable as possible.
We’re often asked how to measure kids feet at home so we’ve pulled together this helpful guide and below you will find our top tips learned from years of experience measuring little feet.
5 TOP TIPS ON HOW TO MEASURE FOR SHOE SIZE
- MORNING, NOON OR NIGHT?
Feet expand and spread throughout the day, especially if they have been on active adventures! So, it’s best if you measure your child’s feet in the late afternoon or evening, if they’re not too tired. Print out our Jump Shoes paper measuring gauge and have a pencil and pair of scissors to hand. Don’t forget to print at 100%.
- SOCKS ROCK
Before you measure your child’s feet make sure they have socks on and, if you’re measuring for school shoes, it’s best to measure with their actual school socks. Wearing too thick a sock can give a false measurement.
To get the most accurate result, always measure feet on a flat surface, ideally not carpet and ask your child to stand tall like a soldier. It’s much harder to get accurate measurements if your child is sitting down and toes may not be able to spread out.
- A TALE OF TWO FEET
It may seem strange, but it is likely that your child will have different sized feet and that’s really normal. It’s the same with us adults. So, it’s really important to measure both feet rather than just one and ensure you go with the measurement of the bigger foot. Always measure to the longest toe but remember this won’t always be the big toe.
- ALL SHAPES AND SIZES
All children’s feet are different. Some have wide feet, some narrow, some a high instep and some flat feet. No one foot is the same and that keeps life interesting. Once you have measured your child’s foot length and width with our paper measuring gauge, jot down the longest length and width measurement and take a look at our kids shoe size chart. This will help you determine the best size for your child and is also a handy shoe size conversion chart for switching between UK and EU shoe sizes.
- SHOE LOVE IS TRUE LOVE
